Canasta is a card game of the Rummy family played on the 4th Friday of each month at 2 pm in the Cunliffe Arms on Jeffreys Road, Wrexham. We usually play with 3 or 4 players on each table with two standard packs of cards that have a points value and jokers and wild cards that can be used as any card. The aim of the game is to get lots of points by making sets of 3 or more matching number cards which are put out on the table in front of the player. If a player cannot go then they pick up another card. However, to ‘go out’ and end the game, you need to have a least one setof 7 cards and have been able to play all your other cards on the table. Because you can see each player’s cards you can try to stop them from making their sets. Points are added up after each game is completed and the winner is the person with the most points at the end of the afternoon session. No previous knowledge necessary as help is provided every session until it is no longer needed.
