We meet in Capel y Groes usually-but not always- on the last Monday of the month. We met on Monday 28th October when we discussed Paul Lynch's Prophet Song. This was a particularly good, indepth discussion of a serious and well written Booker prizewinnng novel. Our November 25th meeting saw us tackling Mike Gayle's The Museum of Ordinary People. Our December meeting will consist of a Christmas coffee morning at the Ramada hotel.
Please note-This group is now full but we are always prepared to help if anyone needs assistance in setting up a similar group.
As from January 2025 the group leader will be Lyn Millen with the present group leader Janet Lewis as her deputy.
Wrexham Library provides us with the vast majority of the books we request and we are hugely indebted to this service and in particular to Debbie Williams our ever helpful reading group support contact. Debbie has provided us with Christy Lefteri's Songbirds for our January meeting.
Our reading diet consists largely of fiction though we have been known to indulge in some non fiction if the subject is especially appealing.
We tend to avoid science fiction and the paranormal. We challenge ourselves with an occasional Booker prizewinner and an annual 'classic'.
All members are involved in the choice of books-using newspaper, online and magazine reviews as well as a variety of radio and TV programmes , personal and library recommendations.
Members, as well as the group leader, are involved in the monthly presentations. Often those novels we are not over fond of are the ones which provoke the most interesting and lengthy discussions!
